Crozier Fire Update and Trail Restoration Efforts

On August 6th, the Crozier Fire broke out in northern El Dorado County, burning 1,938 acres between Georgetown and Mosquito. After two weeks of intense firefighting efforts, the fire was fully contained on August 20th. The fire started on Slate Mountain, right in the southern trail system, scorching a small section of Trail 7.1, also known as Eldo Loco—one of the steepest trails in Georgetown. Thankfully, it’s not one of the more frequently ridden MTB trails.

However, the Rock Creek trails remain closed due to the large dozer lines that were put in place to fight the fire and prevent its spread. As a result, a few trail sections need some love and repair.

But there’s good news! This weekend, on September 12th, the Forest Service and I will be heading out to restore the trails and get everything back in shape as soon as possible. We’re working hard to have the trail system up and running, so stay tuned for updates on our opening day.
